How difficult is it to buy a couple of yellow squash, cut them, boil them, add some salt and pepper and eat? It takes all of about 5 minutes of actual work time. You are then more guaranteed not to be eating things like preservatives or throwing plastic containers into the waste bin.

Even easier, grab some leave spinach. Put a little salad dressing on it. Mix it and eat it. Or try some sesame seeds and soy sauce (image below)

It is also easy to grab many other fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, and grains and eat them in a similar amount of time.

We’ve all heard how important a variety of fruits and vegetables are to being healthy and feeling good. Why wouldn’t you want to feel good? Why wouldn’t you want to be healthy? It only takes an additional 5 minutes of time in many cases. What’s the problem with that?

Oh, and most important in today’s economy... it is MUCH CHEAPER!  You can have a wonderful meal for around $3 per person! And if you want to splurge, you can do it for $5-10. That is still way cheaper than eating at a restaurant, and considerably cheaper than buying pre-packaged foods.

I know people that spend $1000+ per month just for food. They could be eating better food for half that easily!

So in summary, get fruits, vegetables and beans and make them yourself, and you will feel better, be healthier, and have more money left for other things in life.

Let me begin by focusing on a families spending now versus 10 years ago. What has changed? Let’s take it back even further and say 20 years ago. The difference is now we are much more materialistic. Things are going so fast in America that we haven’t had the time to sit back and say “well what’s next?” Half of the people in America don’t even have time to cook a decent meal anymore, and they go out to eat fast food. Which brings me to another point, America wants things fast. Fast food, fast cars, fast work, and quick cash; notice any similarities? Honestly, if we would have stuck to the way things were going do you think we would be in this mess? Children having cosmetic surgeries because of their fat intake, Women spending outlandish amounts of money on clothes that they will never wear, Men spending money on new cars because their faster and look cooler than the last. We as a country need to come to the realization that eating healthy is not only cost efficient but it is also better for the environment. Let’s find a great example; purchase a pack of seeds for 3.00 versus going out to eat and then spending 20.00 on a fast meal. What if you chose not to plant your own vegetables and just wanted to buy them. A bag of apples at my local fruit market is 3.99 right now. What can be faster than sticking an apple under some water and then eating it? I am beginning to think that it is not how fast things are which my initial thought was, and now believe that we are just getting too lazy. We are trying to take the easy way out. Now with most things there is not an easy way out, but unfortunately, for our health, fast food is an easy alternative. How quick is it to purchase an entire meal without even leaving your vehicle? Terrible, but it’s true. I’m not saying ban fast food or anything; I’m just saying that if we focus on our health we would be much better off. We would be much healthier and much wealthier.
